Stella Paul is an environmental and development journalist and media trainer who originally hails from the conflict-ridden region of northeast India, but is currently based in Hyderabad city. Stella independently reports for many leading global media outlets including Thomson Reuters and Inter Press Services. As a journalist, Stella covers environment and development issues in Asia such as climate change, trafficking, slavery and human rights from the perspective of women of extremely marginalized and vulnerable communities.

Stella has won several awards and fellowships for her journalism. These include the Asian Environmental Journalism Award 2015, 2014 and 2013, All India Environmental Journalism Award 2014, UNFPA Media Award for Gender Sensitive reporting 2012, the United Nations Global Issues Press Fellowship, Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma Fellowship and the National Media Award (India). She is also the winner of 2016 Courage in Journalism Award given by the International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) – the first Indian journalist to receive the award.

Besides practicing journalism, Stella also trains journalists and bloggers across Asia in gender-sensitive writing using digital media tools. She is the Asia Ambassador of World Pulse – world’s largest network of women bloggers and change makers which advocates for women’s digital empowerment worldwide. Stella has spoken at several high level global media policy and advocacy forums including the US State Department, the UN Social Good Summit, Clinton Global Initiative and UNESCO Global Forum on Media and Gender.
